There was great excitement when I brought a sheep's heart to school. The children learned that the heart is really important as it pumps blood all over our body. The heart is really strong and it never stops - even when we go to sleep!
We also learned that to keep the heart strong, we need to exercise, and this makes our heart beat faster. We tested our hearts by doing jumping jacks and running up and down the playground (chasing Ms. Ciara)
We used a special app to test our heart rate before and after exercise....
Sometimes we had to rest for a minute or two before testing our heart rate if we'd been outside playing.....

After exercise.....

We learned that your heart is about the same size as your fist!

The children watched some YouTube clips about how the heart pumps blood around the body....
And afterwards Pravisha drew a picture of a heart with the capillaries. Fantastic- we love seeing children apply their learning!
